Because we have been given Free Will, we have every right to make a Spiritual Choice—not only toward Light, but also toward Darkness or even toward Degradation.
What Is the Spiritual Choice toward Darkness?
Let’s see what types of souls can make the Spiritual Choice of Darkness.
A. Young Souls (Up to Ten Lives)
Young souls with limited experience of life in the human body usually do not know how to separate the “wheat from the chaff.”
They frequently err, succumbing to the temptations of the physical world. In many cases, such a soul ends badly—and sometimes even in prison.
You will find excellent examples of such young souls in Terrence Malick‘s Days of Heaven (1978) and Badlands (1973).

B. A Mature Soul Moving Toward the Light
If a mature soul, moving toward the Light, makes an erroneous choice toward Darkness, then the Law of Karma comes into force. This law allows a person to return to the mistake and work through it.
Such a wrong choice definitely prolongs the soul’s path to the Final Exit—that is, moksha, or redemption from the physical realm and the cycle of reincarnation. Negative karma always brings suffering.
The wrong spiritual choice of a mature soul—and the karmic consequences that follow—are powerfully portrayed in the films: Dracula (1992), as well as The Machinist (2004).

C. A Mature Soul That Chooses Darkness Fully
This is the final Spiritual Choice of a person. Such a soul may still return to Earth or another physical world—but without Free Will.
A soul that makes the final Spiritual Choice of Darkness will be programmed to serve the will of its Master: Satan. Read more in my article: “What was it like for the people who sold their souls, and what did they gain from it?”
Satan’s Methods of Control
Since this must happen by mutual agreement, Satan works hard to persuade his target. He offers all possible material temptations: money, power, fame, glory, etc.
He is a tireless, cunning force—like a spider weaving a complex web to catch a fly. Once the victim is caught, he strikes.

A. Loss of Free Will
In literature, this process is often referred to as “selling the soul”—a simplified name for the complex transfer of Free Will to the Head of Darkness.*
It’s vividly depicted in Goethe’s Faust, where the protagonist trades his soul for limitless knowledge; in Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, for eternal youth; and in my novella Tomo and The Soul Catchers, where Cora surrenders her soul for seductive beauty—later adapted into the screenplay Heaven*.
In each case, the deal promises earthly pleasures, but the price is high: loss of the soul’s autonomy, freedom of spiritual direction, and the right to become a Creator.
The soul escapes karma—but at the cost of eternal servitude to Satan, and often, eventual spiritual death. These themes are further explored in my screenplay Redemption*, based on the novel of the same name, where Satan chases a soul across five incarnations.

B. Falling into Slavery to Satan
Once Free Will is taken, Satan gains full control and uses the person as a slave to carry out his own dark agendas.
C. Non-Return to the Hierarchy of Lights
With the loss of Free Will, the person loses any future chance of entering the Hierarchy of Lights—and forfeits the right to become a Creator or Head of Lights.
D. Decoding and Spiritual Death
In carrying out Satan’s orders, people often commit acts of unjustified cruelty—putting themselves at risk of Decoding, a process that leads to Spiritual Death.
This terrifying outcome erases all the soul’s accumulated energies from countless incarnations, leaving no chance of return or rebirth.
When Good Intentions Go Wrong
Not every choice toward the Light leads to spiritual growth. Even with pure intentions, a decision can become a wrong spiritual choice if it lacks proper research, reflection, or discernment. Goodness alone isn’t enough—wisdom must guide the way.
Individual Choices Toward Light Can Go Wrong

Consider someone who chooses veganism out of deep compassion for animals—a clear choice toward Light. However, if they fail to replace essential nutrients properly, they may suffer serious health issues, even risking premature death.
This outcome can interrupt their life mission, creating energetic loss (negative karma) that must be balanced in future incarnations.
Wrong Collective Choices With Noble Intentions

On a larger scale, groups and nations sometimes make collective choices with noble intentions but without full understanding.
Take Prohibition in the United States (1920–1933): a moral effort to improve society by banning alcohol. It was a choice toward Light but lacked insight into social dynamics, resulting in increased crime and corruption.
Similarly, introducing invasive species to protect agriculture or ecosystems may seem like a positive act. Yet, without ecological wisdom, these actions often disrupt natural balance and cause long-term harm.
Wisdom Is Essential to Walk the Path of Light
These examples show that even choices made toward Light can backfire when divorced from careful thought and awareness. Whether individual or collective, spiritual choices demand research, discernment, and a deep understanding of consequences to truly walk the path of Light.
Summary

Free Will grants us the profound opportunity to choose our spiritual path—whether toward Light, Darkness, or Degradation. This choice is not just a simple decision; it is a test of many deeper qualities: inner values, wisdom, logic, discernment, and the ability to analyze consequences.
Sometimes, individuals may believe they are choosing the Light and acting with good intentions, but a lack of proper research, reflection, or understanding can lead to unintended harm—making what seemed like a positive choice ultimately wrong.
Other times, souls—whether young and inexperienced or mature and conscious—may consciously or unconsciously choose Darkness, fully aware or unaware of its grave consequences.
Thus, the Spiritual Choice is a deeply complex process. It involves far more than values alone; it demands heightened awareness, careful discernment, and spiritual maturity to navigate successfully. Only through this depth can one avoid the wrong path and truly walk toward Light.
Note:
A spiritual being refers to any entity whose core essence is the soul—in this context, a human.
